Copper Recycling

Is it worth collecting scrap copper?

The high demand for copper makes it a valuable material to recycle.

You can find non-ferrous metals like copper almost anywhere, from industries such as construction and plumbing contracting.

Copper is a soft and highly conductive metal frequently used in thermal and electric systems. Due to its antimicrobial properties, it finds use in medical environments. Copper can be recycled without loss of quality, and the world’s requirements for copper are increasingly met by recycling.

The difference between number one and number two copper is very simple: number one copper is free of any paint party oil solder joints or any heavy oxidation.

Although PVC pipe is now the standard material used in household plumbing, there are plenty of old houses across Dublin that still use copper pipes.

For non-electrical purposes, copper is also integral to create mass quantities of plumbing tube, roofing sheet and heat exchangers and industrial and household copper cylinders. High electrical conductivity is not compulsory and other quality requirements are not so difficult. Secondary copper can be used for the manufacture of these materials, though still strict requirements regarding quality limits for impurities.

When you are bringing your copper cylinder to our scrap yard for recycling please ensure you remove brass, heating elements and lagging so that you get the very best cash price – these can then be weighed separately.

Found in: pipes and fixtures, cylinders, roof cladding, locks, hinges.

McGovern Metals always pay top prices for your scrap copper.
